Birthday Party Venues in Los Angeles: A Planning Guide

The best birthday party venues in Los Angeles are the ones that fit your guest count, let you control food and drink costs, and give people a reason to stay all evening. For most private celebrations of 20 to 100 guests, a private estate or garden venue where you bring your own caterer and beverages will beat a restaurant buyout on both price and atmosphere. Below is how we would plan it, with real numbers, and where our manor in Valley Village fits.

What Makes a Great Birthday Party Venue in LA

Los Angeles has every kind of party space imaginable, from rooftop bars to bowling alleys to backyard rentals. Before you start touring, it helps to know which questions actually decide whether a venue works. We host birthdays of every kind, and these are the things that matter most to the hosts we talk to.

  • Capacity that matches your list. A venue that holds 300 feels empty with 40 guests, and a room for 30 feels cramped with 60. Count your realistic list first, then look for a space sized within that range.
  • Food and drink rules. Many restaurants, hotels and event halls require you to buy their food and beverage package, often with a minimum spend. Venues that let you bring your own caterer and your own liquor give you far more control over the final bill.
  • Privacy. A semi-private room in a busy restaurant is very different from having an entire property to yourselves. For milestone birthdays, privacy is usually what guests remember.
  • Time on site. Ask how many hours you get and whether setup time is included. A three-hour slot that includes your decorator's setup goes very quickly.
  • Getting there. In LA, location and parking can make or break attendance. A venue near the freeways that is easy to reach by rideshare saves your guests real stress.
  • Sound and end times. Residential and neighbourhood venues usually have an end time and sound rules. Know them before you plan the speeches and the cake.

Types of Birthday Venues in Los Angeles

Each style of venue suits a different kind of party. None is right for everyone, so it is worth matching the type to the celebration you have in mind.

Restaurants and private dining rooms

Ideal for a seated dinner of 10 to 30 people. The kitchen and service are taken care of, but you are working within the restaurant's menu, minimum spend and timing, and the room may not be fully private.

Bars, lounges and rooftops

Good for a looser, adults-only evening. Expect drink minimums, shared space with other customers on busy nights, and limited room to decorate.

Activity venues

Bowling, arcades, escape rooms and similar spaces are fun for a group with a built-in activity, especially for younger birthdays. They tend to run on tight time slots and set packages.

Private estates, gardens and backyard venues

This is the option many hosts overlook. A private property gives you the whole space, your own vendors, and a setting that feels like a home rather than a hall. It works especially well for milestone birthdays like a 30th, 40th, 50th or 70th, for family parties that mix children and grandparents, and for anyone who wants to bring in their favourite caterer.

How to Budget a Birthday Party in LA

Birthday budgets vary enormously, so rather than guess at other venues' pricing, here is the honest breakdown we give hosts who ask what a party at the manor costs. It shows the categories you should budget for at any private venue.

ItemAt The Enchanted Manor
Venue, up to 50 guests$4,200
Venue, 50 to 75 guests$5,400
Venue, 75 to 100 guests$6,600
Time included5 hours of event time plus 2 hours of setup
Extra hours$300 each (events must end by 10pm)
Cleaning$300
Refundable security deposit$250
Tables and tablecloths$8 per table, $10 per tablecloth
Heaters$75 each
Battery lanterns and candles$2 each
Microphone rental$25
One-day event insuranceRequired; averages $66 to $124

The biggest difference from a restaurant or hotel is food and drink. We do not sell food and beverage packages. You bring your own caterer and your own liquor and beverages, so you can choose a taco cart, a family-style Italian dinner or a favourite local caterer and pay their price directly. Georgia is happy to recommend caterers she trusts, and a bartender can work under your caterer's license. Chairs come from an outside rental vendor, and we share contacts.

When you compare venues, add up the full picture: venue fee, food, drinks, rentals, insurance and any service charges. A venue that looks cheaper up front can cost more once a required food and beverage minimum is added.

Birthday Party Ideas That Work in a Garden Setting

An outdoor estate gives you a lot to play with. Here are a few ways hosts use our grounds, and ideas that translate to any garden venue.

  • A milestone dinner under the lights. Long tables beneath the trees, with thousands of fairy lights overhead. Guests often describe it as walking in dappled moonlight.
  • Cocktails by the pool. Our saltwater grotto pool has three waterfalls and lights in nine colours, so you can match the pool to your party palette.
  • A fire pit after-party. As the evening cools, guests drift to the lava-rock fire pit and the outdoor fireplace on the private patio. Heaters can be added for cooler nights.
  • A bar that is already built. The thatched gazebo bar has a refrigerator, sink and barbecue, which makes life easier for your caterer and bartender.
  • Toasts with a microphone. The house sound system and wireless mic cover speeches and background music. We do not allow DJs, which keeps the evening conversational.

For children's birthdays, the grounds include a children's playhouse, a miniature version of the main house, plus a tree house. Families can arrange clowns, storytime, magicians or face painting on request.

Where The Enchanted Manor Fits

The Enchanted Manor is Georgia Durante's home in Valley Village, which she spent 25 years remodelling into a storybook estate on more than 18,000 square feet of grounds. Guests arrive along a brick path, through a stone archway, to large arched wooden doors. Out back are the grotto pool, the raised Jacuzzi, a tri-level deck, the gazebo bar, the fire pit and a canopy of lit trees. As Mirela R. put it, "It is not a back yard but an oasis."

We host private events for up to 100 guests: birthdays of every age, anniversaries, engagement parties, showers, reunions, memorials, corporate gatherings and weddings. It suits hosts who want:

  • The whole property to themselves rather than a room in a busy venue
  • The freedom to bring their own caterer and their own drinks
  • A setting that feels like a private home, not a banquet hall
  • An easy location for guests across LA

You can see photos, capacities and event details on our events page.

Getting There: Location and Parking

We are at 5235 Goodland Avenue on a quiet cul-de-sac in Valley Village, minutes from the 101 and the 405 and easy to reach from Burbank and LAX airports. Universal Studios Hollywood is about 4.9 miles away, and Beverly Hills about 6.5 miles.

There is parking for 12 to 15 cars on the cul-de-sac plus open street parking. For larger parties we recommend guests use Uber or Lyft; valet does not work well on our street. Out-of-town guests can get a special rate at The Mariposa hotel one block away, and if you would like to stay on site yourself, our Inn is available as a vacation rental.

A Simple Planning Timeline

  1. Two to three months out: set your guest count and budget, then tour venues. Popular weekend dates go first.
  2. Six to eight weeks out: book your caterer, bartender, and table and chair rentals. Send invitations.
  3. Three to four weeks out: buy your one-day event insurance and confirm the final headcount range.
  4. One week out: share a timeline with your vendors, covering setup, food service, toasts, cake and end time.
  5. On the day: use your setup window for decorations, and let the setting do the rest.
