Birthday Party Places in Los Angeles for Adults: Guide

The best birthday party places in Los Angeles for adults give you a private space, the freedom to choose your own food and drinks, and enough atmosphere that the setting does half the entertaining for you. Restaurants and bars suit small groups, but for 20 to 100 guests a private venue usually works out better value. At The Enchanted Manor in Valley Village we host adult birthday parties for up to 100 guests from $4,200, with your own caterer and your own liquor.

The main types of adult birthday venues in LA

Most adult birthday parties in Los Angeles end up in one of four kinds of place. Each suits a different size of group and a different kind of night.

Restaurant private rooms

Good for a seated dinner of up to a few dozen people. The food and service are handled for you, but you usually pay a food and beverage minimum, the room is booked for a fixed window, and the menu and wine list are the restaurant's.

Bars and lounges

Easy for a casual, drop-in style party. Reserved sections are often tied to a bottle or bar spend, the music is the venue's, and you share the space with the public unless you buy out the whole place.

Activity venues

Bowling, karaoke, games and classes give guests something to do, which helps when friends from different parts of your life do not know each other. They tend to be priced per person and per hour, and the party ends when the session does.

Private homes, gardens and estates

The choice for milestone birthdays: a 30th, 40th, 50th or 60th where you want the whole place to yourselves, your own menu and drinks, and a setting people talk about afterwards. This is where the manor fits.

How to compare costs fairly

Adult birthday budgets go wrong when you compare a venue's headline price against another's all-in price. Before you book anywhere in LA, work out the total for your guest count, including:

  • Space: the rental fee or the minimum spend.
  • Food and drink: required packages versus bringing your own.
  • Time: included hours, setup time and the cost of running late.
  • Extras: cleaning, deposits, tables, linens, heaters, sound and insurance.
  • Transport: parking or rideshare for every guest.

For reference, here is our full pricing for a private party at the manor:

GuestsEvent fee
Up to 50$4,200
50 to 75$5,400
75 to 100$6,600

That covers 5 hours of party time plus 2 hours of setup. Extra hours are $300 each, and every event must end by 10pm. Additional charges are cleaning $300, a refundable security deposit of $250, tables $8 each, tablecloths $10 each, battery lanterns and candles $2, heaters $75 each, a microphone $25 and a cooler $20. Chairs come from an outside rental vendor, and one-day event insurance naming Georgia Durante and The Enchanted Manor is required; it averages $66 to $124.

What you will not find is a food and beverage package. You bring your own caterer and your own liquor and beverages, and a bartender can work under the caterer's license. For a group that cares about the wine, the cocktails or a favourite cuisine, that freedom is often the deciding factor.

Ideas that suit a garden birthday party

A private garden lets the party move. Instead of everyone pinned to one table, guests drift between spaces as the evening goes on. A few formats our guests love:

  • Poolside cocktail party. A bartender at the thatched gazebo bar, passed bites from your caterer, and the saltwater grotto pool with its three waterfalls as the centrepiece.
  • Long-table dinner. A seated meal on the deck or under the great tree, with toasts over the house sound system and wireless mic.
  • Barbecue and fire pit. The gazebo bar has a built-in barbecue, and the lava-rock fire pit and the outdoor fireplace on the private patio keep the conversation going after dark.
  • Golden-hour to night. Start in daylight, then watch the garden change as the fairy lights come on and the pool and Jacuzzi glow in any of nine colours.

A note on music: our house sound system and wireless mic handle playlists and speeches, but DJs are not permitted, so plan a great playlist rather than a dance floor.

Think about timing, too. Because events here end by 10pm, an afternoon start works beautifully: guests arrive in daylight to see the gardens and the waterfalls, dinner is served as the light fades, and the last hour or two happens under the fairy lights by the fire. For cooler evenings, heaters can be added for $75 each, and battery lanterns and candles for $2 each give the tables a warm glow without any fuss.

Planning checklist for an adult birthday in LA

  1. Set the guest count. A 20-person dinner and a 90-person garden party need very different places.
  2. Choose the format. Seated dinner, cocktail party, or something in between.
  3. Book the venue early for weekend dates, and get the hours and extra charges in writing.
  4. Hire food and drink. If the venue is open, ask for caterer recommendations. Georgia shares caterers she recommends, though you hire your own.
  5. Arrange rentals and insurance. Tables, linens, chairs, heaters, plus a one-day event policy.
  6. Send invitations with transport notes. Tell guests where to park or suggest rideshare.

Location and getting there

For an evening party where drinks are flowing, the journey home matters as much as the venue. The manor is at 5235 Goodland Avenue in Valley Village, on a quiet cul-de-sac minutes from the 101 and 405, and easy from Burbank and LAX airports. There is parking for 12 to 15 cars on the cul-de-sac plus open street parking. Valet does not work well here, so we recommend Uber or Lyft for event guests, which is the sensible choice for a birthday anyway.

Friends flying in can stay close by: out-of-town event guests get a special rate at The Mariposa hotel one block away. Or keep the celebration going for the weekend by booking the Inn, our vacation rental on the grounds, which sleeps up to 6 with its Secret Room and Great Room opened.

Why the manor works for milestone birthdays

Georgia Durante, a former precision stunt driver and author of "The Company She Keeps", spent 25 years remodelling her home into the manor and still lives on the property. Over the years it has hosted birthdays, anniversaries, reunions, engagement parties and corporate events, and it has appeared on screen in Lifetime's "William & Kate" and Bravo's "Shahs of Sunset". Even so, for a birthday it feels like what it is: a private home with 18,000-plus square feet of gardens that is yours for the evening.

Our guests tend to say it best. Kit R. called the pool "The loveliest pool I've ever swum in." Andrew W. said: "It was hard to believe it was actually Los Angeles." And Georgia's motto fits a birthday perfectly: "They come as strangers and leave as friends."
